Great story about putting analytical tools in the hands of decision makers. The iPad hype might be a bit much, but I would argue it did help. The deployment was something that all of these elder statesmen could understand without an IT professional (receive it in the mail and open it like a letter), and the user interface allowed people to focus on the problem at hand and bring it with them anywhere they went as they shuffled between emergency meetings, phone calls, etc. Job well done by Bob Apfel!
